January 2013 - Grails and Fails!

January was the month of buying for me I guess. Thats right, I tried 13 new products this month :O omg, this is not healthy for my college life bank account. I'm a little embarrased to admit I purchased that many products, but I'm happy to share with you that most of them were thumbs up products, woot woot! I do need to cut back on my spending apparently, but 5 of these products were purchased with a gift card so I don't feel as guilty ;) This does go to show why I needed to make that blog sale though! Shop my stash if you need some new products! :)

Skincare

Simple Soothing Eye Balm
Packaging says it contains vital vitamins to help soften, smoth and improve skin conidition. I have noticed a big difference in the feeling of my under eye area when using this product. I'm only 19 so I'm not trying to get rid of wrinkles, just wanted something to hydrate that area and so far this is working very well. It has no dyes or perfumes as well which I love which means it isn't irritating to the skin. This is just a basic eye cream that is giving me nice results so I'm liking this.
Conclusion: GRAIL

Makeup

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation
You guys know I love me some Revlon. I'm not a foundation wearer at all and honestly wasn't going to pick this up for the fact that it says "naked" and I figured this would basically do nothing for me. While roaming the makeup section though, I grabbed this like immediately and brought it home with me. I'm in love. Colors matches my light skin, may actually be a tad too light honestly. The coverage is shockingly very nice. I'm not going to say too much more because I will have a full review on this coming your way very very soon!
Conclusion: GRAIL!

Revlon Photoready BB Cream
Picked this up because I was excited to see a BB cream that made a light enough shade for me. I have a full review on this if you want to know my full opinion, go check that out. I will say I am liking this a little bit more than I was before, but it makes me way too shiny and I'm not even an oily skin person in the winter time so I'm still adjusting to this. Hopefully this product will continue to grow on me.
Conclusion: Meh...

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Not Just Nudes
Let's finish off the Revlon category. Again, I did a full review on this if you want to know every little detail, but I didn't like this. Creased on me really fast even while using a primer, and I never have that problem. Texture of the product is nice, but I just think Maybelline makes way better cream shadows. Oops, did I say that? Sorry Revlon. I still love you.
Conclusion: FAIL

Benefit Watt's Up!
I'm really enjoying this. It is a golden toned highlighter (the only kind I like!) and leaves a very nice sheen on my cheeks. If you would like a full review on this product, let me know and I will go into all the details. Just don't want to bore you to death in this post!
Conclusion: GRAIL

ELF Eyebrow Kit
I was using Naked eyeshadow and Wet n Wild Brow pencil to fill in my brows for quite a while. Wanted to invest in another brow product since I was preferring the powder method over the pencil and I really ended up liking this product. It comes with a nice powder which I use to fill in bare spots, and a wax which I don't use as often, but is great for really setting your brows into place. I think this product is totally worth more than $3! I can tell this will be a holy grail product for me as time goes on.
Conclusion: GRAIL

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick
Full review is on my blog. This is a great shadow base, I'm really thrilled by this. It does wear off a little bit as time goes on, but it's not a huge deal in my opinion. I did contact Rimmel myself to see if these were safe to sharpen and they said absolutely so if you had this and were wondering, go for it! Worked just fine from me and they totally approve of it.
Conclusion: GRAIL

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal
Kudos to Rimmel! I freakin love this eyeliner. It is so creamy, glides on my waterline, and has amazing staying power. I'm honestly going to pick up more colors once I go shopping again. Full review again is on my blog. BUY THESE PLEASE!
Conclusion: GRAIL

Maybelline the Rocket Mascara
Only Maybelline mascara I've ever had luck with. This easily is a nice two coat mascara for me. First coat builds up a ton of volume for me, and second adds even more volume and length. Love this stuff so much.
Conclusion: GRAIL

ELF Lipsick in Voodoo
Nice deeper red color. Great for fall and winter. I like the updated packaging for the ELF essential lipsticks line. The smell isn't offending, but it does smell a little perfumey? to me, I think. This feels really nice on my lips, lasts like any other lipstick, and doesn't taste bad either.
Conclusion: GRAIL

ELF Lip Exfoliator
Let's be honest. I saw this on the site and thought the product looked like sand paper. It has such a scary appearance but don't let that stop you from buying this product! It smells heavenly (like sugar) and tastes great! Just wet your lips with a wash cloth, apply this to your lips, and then take it off. Leaves your lips smooth and tasting great. Finish it off with a lip balm and your lips will be in good shape all day long. I'm seriously obsessed with this stuff. Can't get enough. Packaging does suck though, sorry ELF.
Conclusion: GRAIL

BonneBell LipLites in Strawberry Parfait
I think that is the name of it. I bought this because people said it was a really nice product. Saw it at the store multiple times, passed by it. Finally picked it up, wish I would've left it there. This smells great, but looks horrible on me. The texture feels fine on my lips, but it is just too "milky" in my opinion. If that makes sense to any of you. I just can't give this product love. Maybe I will include it in my blog sale if any of you would be interested in it.
Conclusion: FAIL

Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in Shocking Coral
Just did a review on this. Don't want to rave about it much more. Amazingly bright color, will look great in the spring and summer. That's all I need to say.
Conclusion: GRAIL

Okay, so finally we are done. Hope I didn't bore you guys too much with this post. I just really wanted to do this idea, thought it would be helpful so let me know what you think down below! If you have product suggestions you think I should try out or review in February, let me know in a comment please and thank you!

Products I've Been Loving: 1/13-1/31!

Today I'm going to wrap up the month with a products I've been loving post. Many of these are newer products I'm very excited to share with you!

Naked Palette
Specifically Virgin, Sidecar, Naked, and Darkhorse. My go to eye look (with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze as a base!) On a daily basis I'm completely comfortable wearing this "dramatic" of a look. I know many people wouldn't wear this every day.

Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup
Blog post to come on this product! I'm just going to leave it at that.

Sally Hansen Kwik Off Moisturizing Nail Color Remover
Switched to this to take off glitter nail polish. So much less stressful, let me tell you!

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze
Great base. I've truly used this product to death. Enough said.

Maybelline the Rocket Mascara
My go to mascara right now. Lengthens very nicely, and creates volume. Only Maybelline mascara I've ever liked.

ELF Eyebrow Kit
I am definitely loving this product. Makes my eyebrows look so much nicer.

Carmex
Not a fancy favorite, but a total lifesaver! Use this every night before bed, my lips have never been in better condition!

ELF Blush and Bronzer Palette
Only using the bronzer like crazy. Seriously loving it, and afraid to run out of it since this product isn't out anymore :/

So those are my favorites for the last half of the month! I'd say Maybelline and ELF kinda stole the show :) I'm totally in a trying out new products mood so please tell me what you have tried recently and have loved! :) Doing a new blog post starting this year, talking about all my favorite products of the month and what I thought of them, so stay tuned for that!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner: Review!

I'm pretty sure I mentioned in my last Rimmel review that I really wanted to get my hands on the new Scandal Eyes Waterproof eyeliners. Today I happened to stumble upon them by accident (woop woop!) and was so thankful! And the price was under $4! Shut. Up. Haven't been that excited about an eyeliner like ever. Needless to say, I picked one up. I had three in my hand but I knew I should only pick up one to see how my eyes react to this eyeliner before I buy too many. Let's see my thoughts on this product.

I have really sensitive eyes apparently, because there are a lot of eyeliners I can't use without them making my eyes burn and water. I haven't learned which ingredient my eyes are sensitive to yet (should probably figure that out) but I can't comforably use Milani, Covergirl, and some other eyeliners because of this. This product did not give my eye a reaction at all, holla! I was so happy about this because I was really excited about this product.

I saw these and immediately grabbed the nude color, but I knew if I wanted to review this for you all I was better off starting with the black, even if I already own like 6 black eyeliners.

This is a very rich, black eyeliner that has a creamy feel. It glides on the waterline like a dream. With the swatch, I let it set into my skin and then ran it under water (since this claims to be a waterproof formula) and it didn't budge with just water. I rubbed the water into the swatch and it didn't budge, until I added soap with the water. So this does seem to be waterproof.

On the eyes, it stayed put without smearing or wearing off for a solid 4 hours, which is pretty remarkable for me and eyeliner. This never transferred to the outter corners of my eyes (so glad!). After that, it just started to wear off slightly, but not fully so that was amazing. For 8 hours of wear, I didn't notice much wearing off at all, could have used a touch up but wasn't anything bad.

The claims...
High intensity color for an instant color impact: YES!
Ultra smooth & creamy formula that glides on easily: Oh yes
Waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof, humidity-proof and scandal-proof: Pretty well!
Dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested. Safe for sensitive eyes: YES! (me) woop!

This is easily one of my favorite drugstore eyeliners now! Probably my all time favorite (hope I'm not speaking too soon!) Definitely going to pick up more colors ASAP! Please pick these up if you can find them! For around $4, they are a total steal!

NEW Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lip Color in Shocking Coral: Review and Swatches!

Maybelline came out with a new line of lipsticks called "The Vivids" that are suppose to be bright, fun colors. When I looked at the bottom of the packaging at the drugstore, they seemed to be targeting bright neon colors... perfection.

I love the packaging of maybelline lipsticks, they are seriously so pretty. All of these come in a bright red package, and display the color of the lipstick at the bottom of the package. It is very sturdy packaging.

As you can tell from the swatch, this.is.amazing! The texture is really smooth and glides on the lips nicely. It went on my lips very smoothly and didn't settle into the lines in my lip (much). This formula has honey necture in it which is suppose to make it smooth and I can really feel it sit nicely on my lips, and doesn't dry them out.

I just started getting myself to wear bright red lipstick this year, so I hadn't felt comfortable wearing any other bright lipsticks prior to that. I was hesistant to buy this, but I saw it and knew I just needed it. It is beautiful!

Only "complaint" I do have is the smell of the color sensational lipsticks. They smell like play-doh to me, bleh. I can't smell it when this is on my lips thought so I am not even going to complain. The taste is shockingly nice.. which is weird but I'm just saying. At least it doesn't taste bad.

One of the ultimate tests I have for a bright lipstick is if it'll wipe off easily when I am done wearing it. This does and doesn't stain my lips, so glad.

I'm very pale, but this color looked great with my skin tone. I think it even made me appear to have more color, score. This will be a very beautiful color for the spring and summer months! That won't stop me from wearing this until then, though ;)

I can't say enough good things! Defintely going to pick some more up for spring and summer! Next on my list is Fuschia Fever, it looks so intense! For $5.49/5.50, I think you should totally check these out :) What is your favorite bright lipstick?

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick: Revew!

I am a big fan of Rimmel products, so when I spotted these at Walgreens I knew I had to pick one up and try it out. Problem was, I could only find one color. So I was grabbing it for sure. I was able to snag the color Witness White.

What drew me to these is I've always wanted to try NYX jumbo eye pencils, but I do not have an area close to me where I can just run out and buy them whenever I want. I'm always hesitant to order colors online because you never know what they will end up looking like in person. While I love my HD shadow base by NYX, I just don't find myself ordering other things from them online. With that being said, I was very excited for the release of this product from Rimmel!

This is a stark white, with a frosty shimmery appearance. This product is insanely creamy, and blends out really well. It does set in place though, no worries! I didn't have very many problems while wearing this, the product did start to wear off towards the very end of the day, but I can't complain.

I think this product is similar enough to the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool (on left), so if you have that already I don't feel you need this certain shade. I prefer the Rimmel Pencil though!

This product is super pigmented, very creamy, easy to work with, stays put for most of the day. I'd say this product is a keeper! I can't wait to get my hands on more of these! Do you have another product similar to this that you love? Please share them with me!

NOTD: Revlon Nail Polish in Girly!

I had a $50 Walmart gift card burning a hole in my pocket, and Walmart is one of my favorite places to check out makeup just because it is usually the cheapest place. I had a coupon for Revlon nail polish, and while scanning the shelves this one immediately caught my eye.

This came out looking a little funny in the picture, but I promise in person this looks a whole lot better :)

I normally do not gravitate towards glitters that have a colored base, but this one just caught my eye. The base is a light milky pink color, with bigger purple/blue, light pink, and fuchsia chunks of glitter, and little orange and purple chunks. I may be missing some but that is what I see when I personally inspect this.

I wanted to use this product for the first time on it's own to see how it does perform. In the picture I provided, the base went opaque with about two coats for me. You do have to be kind of careful though otherwise you can end up with a glitter overload. Also, when layering, you kind of lose the affect of some of the glitter pieces so it gets a little weird. I do like the outcome of this polish though. I think I may like it even better if I just layer it over a similar color base, but this is definitely a product you can get to work on it's own.

The consistency of this nail polish feels like jelly when I apply it! I'm not sure why. It is different, but I don't mind it at all.

I know this is a newer polish, but if you love glitter like I do, I recommend picking it up if you find it!

What is your favorite glitter nail polish?

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: Review!

I have been on a trying BB creams kick lately. Even though I hadn't heard the most positive things about this product, I wanted to give it a shot and see what I thought of it. I wrote down my thoughts on the first day I wore this to include in this post, and wore it multiple times after this to get my full opinion on this product for you guys!

This comes in 5 shades. I could not find the lightest shade anywhere to save my life, so I reluctantly picked up the light/medium shade and tried to make it work for myself. Oh dear, oh my. Let's look at this product against my skin.

Holy orange. This looks even more orange in real life. Granted, I am pale, but I don't know whose skin tone this will possibly match perfectly. Seems like such a strange color. Maybe that's just me.

Not sure if you can see this or not, but the middle part of my hand still had an orange tint after I blended this into my skin.

First Impression:
11 a.m. - application time
Not right color. Super hard to blend. Noticeable product on skin. Face did feel smooth after application though.
1:30
"I need to blot" shiny. Ugh.
3:00
Excess oil... but didn't blot or powder
4:30
Oil only a tad worse
7:30
Oil city.

For me to be oily throughout the day right now is not a good sign. It is winter and my skin is dry. So to appear oily, it is a huge problem in my opinion.

8-in-1 Skin Perfector:
• Blurs imperfections: Kind of
• Brightens: Not really
• Evens skin tone: Pretty well
• Smoothes: Yes
• Hydrates: Oily..
• Enhances: Meh, no
• Protects with SPF 30

I continued to use this for about a week to form a full opinion on it for you guys. This product is a no go for me. This product is just too darn hard to blend! Also, I do not like the fact that I can see product sitting on top of my skin after I apply this. You can see like a mask on my face. Once I apply more products over it it doesn't look too bad but I feel like that is just too much work. My skin just looked really dull while wearing this and I didn't like it. I feel like this may work for some people, but if you have naturally oily skin I would definitely stay away. I'm not even oily in the winter and I turned shiny pretty fast.

What is your favorite BB cream? I have yet to find one I truly enjoy. Want to try an eastern BB cream, any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hard Candy Kal-Eye-Descope Baked Eyeshadow Duo in High Maintenance: Review and Swatch!

Being only 19, I still like using products that sparkle and shine. I figure I better enjoy using them while I can! With that being said, let's talk about this shimmery duo from Hard Candy, called High Maintenance.

This duo contains a shimmery champagne color and a bronzey brown that has a hint of a purpley taupe. These shades are both shimmery and have a bit of a frosty apperance to them which I love. Baked eyeshadows can be used wet or dry, but honestly I have good enough color payoff with this product if I just use them dry! Applying them wet just allows for the colors to pop even more on my eyes.

This is a swatch of them dry! I think the pigmentation is honestly fine on this. I don't feel with every day use I need to wet my brush to get this duo to look amazing on my eyes. I do not have a problem with applying these, not hard to blend or use. The packaging is sturdy and this product only costs $6 at Walmart! I really cannot find a downfall to this product honestly. For an every day simple eye look, I'm not going to complain about spending $6! No sir.

Have you tried any Hard Candy products? What did you think of them?

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Not Just Nudes: Review and Swatches!

My biggest weakness by far when shopping for new makeup is cream eyeshadows. I love them, use them practically every day, I just cannot get enough of them! I had been eyeing this certain product for quite a while and finally just decided to pick it up since it was so cheap. I think it is safe to say Revlon is one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands, so I didn't see myself being disappointed in this product.

This palette in Not Just Nudes has a light beige shade that has very minimal shimmer, a taupey shade with shimmer, a medium brown, and a shimmer dark brown.

The colors are very pretty.
This product is so creamy and applies so easily. There is just one problem. It creases like mad, and fast. I put this on for work on day at 8:30, and on my lunch break at 11:30, it was completely creased. I even topped it off with powder eyeshadow. I don't understand what caused it to crease so fast, but I was not impressed with this. The consistency and pigmentation are great, otherwise.

Sorry Revlon, I love you, I just can't give you props for this product. What are you favorite cream shadows? Suggestions are always appreciated :)

Jordana FabuLiner: Review and Swatch!

In my opinion, felt tip eyeliner pens are the easiest form of eyeliner for beginners or anyone who struggles with applying eyeliner! Today I'm going to share with you my thoughts on the Jordana FabuLiner!

The felt tip on this product is chunkier than most. It is really stiff as well which makes it easier to apply than the flexible felt tip pens. I really am a fan of this tip.

This is highly pigmented. With the tip of this product, you can achieve a very thin line, or easily make a thick bold line. Winging out eyeliner couldn't be any easier with this eyeliner, I don't recall ever messing up a wing while using this. So you know, if you wear eyeshadow with this, some of it will latch onto the tip of this, but it doesn't affect the way it applies or it will not wreck your future makeup applications.

I wore this for the first time when I was going out one night without a primer. I quick threw it on and ran out the door. Let me tell you, after I looked in the mirror next, I looked like a hot mess. I do not recommend this eyeliner if you refuse to use an eyeshadow primer. When I did use one though and had eyeshadow on, this lasted all day and night! This won't budge if you prime properly first.

I have had my same pen for over six months and it is still going strong. For $2.99, and having it last that long, I think this product is incredible! You can find this at Walgreens, or wherever else Jordana products are sold such as Kmart.

Have you tried this eyeliner? What is your favorite felt tip eyeliner?

Covergirl Eye Enhancers Eye Shadow in Shimmering Sands: Review and Swatches!

Let's talk about an inexpensive, simple palette that is great for every day use. I think it's amazing when we can find drugstore items that are great enough to use every day, and this is one of those products in my opinion!

I bought this simply because I heard everyone talking about this and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I'll be honest, at first I wasn't all that impressed and hardly ever used it. One I made myself start using it more, I saw the true quality of this great product!

The texture of Covergirl eye shadows is incredibly smooth. Pigmentation is great. They blend out very easily on the eyes. I never use eye shadow without a primer so I don't know the lasting power of them without using one. I think Covergirl eyeshadows are great for beginners because they take no effort to use and it would be very hard to people to mess up a look with them. I like that you can build these colors up to get even more drama for like a night time look as well.

I think this would be an easy go to no fuss eye look for any girl, especially low maintenance ones! Pick it up next time you see it. For under $5, you can't go wrong with this, even if you don't use it very often.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner Review!

As you can tell from the title of this post, the name of this product is definitely a mouthful! I'd like to share with you my thoughts on these gel cream liners by physicians formula.

This line from physicians formula comes in trios for each eye color. So you can pick the set that compliments your eyes, or pick the colors that you like the most! You have complete freedom with this line, but I like that they do have a set category for newbies who may not know what colors they should go for.

I have the set for hazel eyes. It comes with a very rich black, that does have a hint of purple sparkle in it. On the eyes, I can barely notice it to be honest. The next color is a purple that has a hint of pink to it. The brown is a standard pretty brown that may have the slightest bit of a gold or silver sparkle, but it is really hard to detect. Less noticeable than the black color that has sparkle.

As you can see, the pigmentation is amazing with these. The formula is so creamy and easy to work with, but once it sets it stays in place all day for me. I can use this as eyeliner, or as an eyeshadow base (it doesn't crease!) This comes with a brush that isn't too bad honestly, I just tend to grab whichever eyeliner brush I find first since I have more of them than I need. I have had these for over a year and they haven't shown any sign of drying up on me! The price I see for these varies from place to place, but I have seen them around $10-12 at most places and they are totally worth the money! You get three awesome eyeliners for the price so it really isn't "expensive" if you remember that.

Have you tried these? What is your favorite eyeliner?

L'Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer Review!

Well, it's Monday guys. Hope you are all having a fantastic day. Mine has been so beyond busy, working all day plus classes are starting but I still wanted to be able to find time to blog!

Today I'm going to share a product review on the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer. I'm the type of person who likes to use products as they are stated to use, that is fair right? Well I simply cannot use this as a primer. It feels way too heavy on my skin! Not to mention, when adding products on top of it, you lose the "glow" aspect of this product. I'm not really a fan of this as a primer in general because I feel like there are definitely better quality ones even in the drugstore. I so badly wanted to like this since it had special luminating features but it doesn't come through in this aspect for me.

As you can tell, this is straight up pearly white. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, I'm sure some people really enjoy this about it. I'm just not a fan of that.

Once blended into the skin, it does look very nice. But I don't like that you can detect a white patch on my cheeks when I wear this as a highlighter.

All in all, I'm not to impressed with this product. For about $11-12, I could easily have saved that money and put it towards a product I would enjoy much more. Do you enjoy this primer?
